Hello ORCSA members,
Well, we all survived Equine Affaire! Below are comments from Andy:
Hello everyone, Just wanted to take a minute to thank each and every person who helped make this year’s Equine Affaire an enormous success! If my math is correct we had a total of 20 Clydesdales and 7 Shires for their main demos on Sunday. 15 horses were there over the entire four days, and then 12 more arrived Sunday morning for the Clyde demo. Show management was extremely amazed at the turnout. The crowd went wild, and all the exhibitors were ear to ear smiles. The weather was great, but I thought that maybe the overall attendance was down a bit, (as we could actually still walk through the barn on Saturday). We had a photographer (Ron Swartz, who started talking to Debbie a few years back at the Lebanon Christmas Parade) come up on Sunday. He took as many shots as he could in the limited Time we had for the demos. He wants to gather a bunch of photos and would like to eventually make a calendar that we could possibly sell as a fund raiser. I think he will send us some to post on the web site later on, or at least give us a link. We had a lot of visitors at the ORCSA stall to visit with Danny, Jacob, and Daisy (and some even talked with us human folks). There were tons of photos taken with the horses who loved sticking their heads out the stall door. We gave out a ton of candy, and some members made good contacts for training and possible sales of horses. With the changeover in show management, we had some confusion on entry passes for a few of the exhibitors. Unfortunately Mike got roughed up and had to pay at the gate to get in, while Debbie, Bill and Tim all managed to talk their way through. I thought the outside demo ring was too small this year as they added extra bleachers to one side. For riding a few at a time was OK, but driving was a little tight. Everyone who was there had a great time, and most said they plan to do it again next year. There were several members who helped watch the stall and talk with visitors all four days. A good time was had by all. So again, a sincere thank you to one and all! Andy K.
The summer meeting/picnic is Sunday, June 22 at Deb Bechstein’s farm beginning at noon. Paper products, meat, and buns will be provided. Please bring a dish to share, lawn chairs, items for the Chinese auction, and of course, money!! A 50/50 raffle might also take place. Anita Guiher will have ORCSA sweatshirts, tee shirts, and caps for sale. Please bring photos as the ORCSA brochure needs updating. We will be electing the 2014 Youth Rep at the picnic. Attached are two applications; they will also be accepted at the meeting. If you cannot attend and want to vote, either call or email me and I will cast your vote for you. The 2014 Ohio Agricultural Fair Schedule is attached, thanks to Anita. Also, an application for the Olde Canal Days Grand Parade, with a submission deadline of May 31, 2014.
