Hello ORCSA members,
It's Spring time in Ohio - aw - the beauty of new growth, flowers in bloom, trees in blossom and those precious baby foals! At least, this past winter was pretty easy on us, for the most part, which was fine with me!
I have a couple things to relate to you in this newsletter. I've enclosed the minutes of our Executive Board meeting, which was held the end of January. It covers most of what we're doing this year. We did have to cancel our Spring Fling Get-together, due to Dixie Golliday hurting her knee and then having to deal with surgery recovery. I hope everyone who had planned to attend, did get the word that it was cancelled and hopefully, the Gollidays did not have a lot of visitors that day!
Equine Affaire was held in Columbus on April 12-15 and some of our members participated in the Breed Demos and also helped with our ORCSA stall and booth. I'd like to express a big "thank you" too ALL that helped make this another memorable and informative event. Without the steady and continued help of these members, we couldn't do this. Thank you again, on behalf of all our officers and members.
If you have a young person interested in being our 2012 Youth Representative, please encourage them to fill out and submit an application. The form and guidelines are on our web site, www.orcsa.com Encourage our young ones, they are our predecessors , who will carry on for us, so we need to help them to step up and learn "the reins" of the draft horse world. We will meet and select our Youth Representative at our Annual Summer Picnic/Meeting. The candidates are requested to be at this Picnic/Meeting, so we can meet them and present the winner with the 2012 sash, tiara (girl) or cowboy hat logo (boy).
If you meet or know anyone who has Clydesdales or Shires and aren't members, ask them to come to this picnic/ meeting and hopefully, they might see benefit and want to be a part of our friendly group.
The National Clydesdale Sale/Convention has a new home near Howe, Indiana, this year with lots of changes, including adding some Shires and Gypsy Vanner horses for the auction, plus un-catalogued horses. This might be all for the good of the draft horse world. Sometimes, change is hard to accept, but maybe necessary to continue on and to grow.
Our Summer Picnic will be held on June 3 (Sunday), starting at noon, at the Guiher Farm, near Berlin Heights, Ohio. We will plan to eat around noon, then have our meeting and then follow up with a program or something fun. I've included a map with the directions arid information. Plan to bring a dish to share, your appetites, some items for our. Chinese Auction, plus extra cash to spend on the auction items. Also, take a look at our ORCSA Tee-shirts, sweatshirts and caps, plus maybe order a decal or bumper sticker.
Don't forget, if you have something to buy, sell or trade, let me know, and I will put it on the Web site and in the next couple newsletters.
Until I see you ALL at the picnic/meeting in. June, take care now.
