Late Fall 2012
Hello ORCSA members,
By the time I put this newsletter together, we will have come through another National Presidential Election and will now be wondering how the next 4 years will unfold. I know I am so glad to be rid of all the hype and campaigning. I don't ever remember being so inundated with TV ads, radio ads, telephone calls and mail. Geez, if there could only be a limit, both in time and money spent on all this stuff- wouldn't that be nice? Ah, but guess what, now we have the next few weeks dealing with all the Christmas ads - life is great!
I, on behalf of ORCSA, would like to give Myron and Eleanor Knapp a big Thank You for hosting our Fall outing in October, at their wonderful farm. There were about 33 of us there for the day and, I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Knapps have the greatest trails through out their woods, and it is easy to get lost there without "a guide"....thankfully, we had Myron and his team of Clydesdales to follow. Also, a big thank you to Mary Muller and her sister, Julie, for bringing their team and Mark Main, who brought one of his teams of mares. The weather was cool and Fall clouds painted the skies, but as we took our drive, the sun came out and helped to warm us and also helped to show off the Fall colors on the trees. As always, we enjoyed a great lunch and lots of chatter could be heard amongst us - catching up on news and making friends. When you find a minute or two and can get to a computer, go to our web site- www.orcsa.com and check out the photos that Brandon Knapp put on the site. We have some great shots of that day.
We had our own election, too for the 2013 year, and the results are listed here. I know we did not have any positions with members running against each other, but, still, only 13 ballots were returned - not very good participation! Andy will serve another 2 year term as President with 11 votes, Norm Guiher and Daryl Jones each received 1 vote, as write- ins. Brenda and Anita will continue to serve another year as Treasurer and Secretary. Michael Maggard will be our Shire Trustee for the next 3 years. Thank you to the our 2013 Officers and thank you for those who returned their ballots.
Our next meeting will be in- conjunction with the Ohio State Fair All Breed Draft Horse Show and will be held after the Fair Show meeting is completed. The date for this meeting is December 8 and starts at 10:00am at the DiSalie Building, which is located at the fair grounds on the north side of 17th Ave. For those who plan to attend, bring some snacks and drinks to share during our ORCSA meeting. We will conduct a meeting and make plans for the upcoming year. Hope to see you there.
Brenda will be sending out forms in January 2013 for dues renewal and also the form for the Ohio State Fair Trophy sponsorships. Please take a few minutes to take care of this and return the forms and money to Brenda by the deadline date. With the Holiday Season coming up soon, we feel sending out the forms in early January gives you some time to recover from Christmas and its expenses.
Some of us managed to attend the 1st Fall All Draft Horse Breed Sale in Howe, Indiana in October which was put on by the Clydesdale Breeders of the USA. There was a lot of "stuff' at the Tack Sale on Friday and not many people to bid so there were a lot of no sales on the big items, like wagons, carts, vis-a-vis and big 4 horse trailer. The horse sale on Saturday was interesting - once 2S Clydesdales dispersal sale was over, the prices dropped off significantly. There were some nice horses go through the ring too and quite a few no sales, and I believe it is just another indication of the economy - money is tight for most of us.
Well, time to sign off, but I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and Great Holiday Season.
