Late Fall 2009
Hello to our ORCSA members
As fall is rapidly turning into our long dreary winter, I'm trying to enjoy the last leaves - clinging to the trees, and waning sunshine. The days are getting shorter and the night temperatures are colder - just another reminder that Winter is coming quickly.
The Executive Board came together at President Al Sidell's home to conduct a meeting to discuss our organization's future goals and also current and ongoing issues. The Board has not met for a few years now, and it was decided - that was needed to be rectified - to insure the continuity of the membership and organization.
We have some new members that joined this past year and we hope to continue growing, but we need to "make our course" and move ahead. We will install our new officers at our December General Membership Meeting on December 12 (Saturday) at the Ohio State Fair Grounds. Our membership is invited to attend both the OSF All Breed Draft Horse Show Meeting at 10:00 am and then, follow up with our own association's meeting. We realize December is a hectic and busy month with all the preparations for Christmas and the New Year, but we'd sure like to see a good attendance for our meeting, regardless.
I've enclosed the results of the 2009 Ohio State Fair for your "reading pleasure", plus the results of the Governor's Cup Class. How nice it was that a Hitch from Ohio won this prestigious class this year. Also it was nice to have a Hitch from our organization participate and place. Congratulations to Tim and Mary Myers with their Clydesdale Hitch.
Don't forget if you feel you know or have a young person hi your family or crew who has accomplishments with our breeds, send me the information and a brief write up on them, and I will feature them in our newsletter. This is a great opportunity to recognize, acknowledge and encourage the younger generation to continue promoting, using and enjoying our wonderful Shires and Clydesdales. They are our future. In that note, I've included a profile and photo of our 2009 Youth Representative, William Muller. Thank you, Will, for taking on this position. This will also be on our website: www.orcsa.com
Please remember to renew your membership for 2010 - $25 for family and $18 for single memberships. The forms were in the last newsletter and can be obtained off the website also. We are also asking for your Stallion Reports and Trophy Sponsorships for 2010. I have a revised Trophy Sponsorship form included in this newsletter. If you can't find these forms from the last newsletter or website, call me, email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or drop a line, and I will send out what ever you need.
I have included a few filed Stallion Reports in this newsletter and will continue to put them in the next newsletter as well, as they come back to me. Our 2010 Picnic and Summer Meeting will be hosted by Myron and Eleanor Knapp from Rochester, Ohio. More information on this will come as the year « moves along.
Our " Fall Get-together" at the Sidells' was a success. We had a nice turnout for this outing and clinic. There was amble opportunities to ride and drive cart, team, unicorn and four -up in the afternoon. A big Thanks to Tim and Mary Myers, Al and Maria Sidell, Lynn and Mary Muller and Norm and Anita Guiher for furnishing horses and equipment to work with. I think some of our newer members, who attended, enjoyed this opportunity to take the reins of multiple hitches and feel that power and the thrill of holding those horses in your hands.
Since this is a lengthy newsletter, I'll make my exit now.
Hope your Thanksgiving will be blessed and enjoyable and Merry Christmas to all of you. I'll be back in January with our next newsletter!
